SAC Encounter

Allie Bennet is our star teacher in today’s SAC Encounter. Allie will be teaching Drama and early morning yoga classes for many of our camps this summer. Allie has theatre experience in both the US and Germany, acting in many shows including Sleeping Beauty and I Remember Mama. Allie’s theatre credentials also include costuming, having designed and constructed shows such as Seussical the Musical, Alice in Wonderland and A Few Good Men.

Allie taught for NCLAC’s Summer Arts Camps last year, and she just completed our Drama Warehouse workshop, where she instructed children and parents in Bernice on theatre fundamentals. Allie is the owner of Stitchville, downtown Ruston’s new fabric and yarn shop, where she holds children’s summer camps, and adult sewing and knitting classes.

The hottest juried all media art show in Louisiana! It is the largest Louisiana show featuring only Louisiana artists. This celebration of the arts was enjoyed by nearly 10,000 art enthusiasts on opening night in 2010.

The annual Forum 35 Art Melt will take place from 5-10pm on Saturday, July 16 at the Louisiana State Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. The works selected for the show will hang in the Louisiana State Museum in Downtown Baton Rouge for 6 weeks. We are excited this new, larger space will allow us to nearly double our exhibition space.

This event is an occasion for all the senses – sights, sounds, smell, taste, and touch – guests will view the show and also enjoy live entertainment and performance art.

ELIGIBILITY:
Open to artists age 18 or older residing in Louisiana. Art must be original and completed in the last two years. No reproductions accepted.

Fourteenth Annual Poetry Contest

The winning poet will receive $1,500 and have his or her work published in the November/December 2011 issue of Boston Review. Submit up to five unpublished poems, no more than 10 pages total. Any poet writing in English is eligible, unless he or she is a current student, former student, relative, or close personal friend of the judge. Mailed manuscripts must be submitted in duplicate, with a cover note listing the author’s name, address, email and phone number. No cover note is necessary for online submission. Names should not be on the poems themselves. Simultaneous submissions are not permitted, submissions will not be returned, and submissions may not be modified after entry. A non-refundable $20 entry fee, payable to Boston Review in the form of a check or money order or by credit card, must accompany all submissions. Ruston Community Theatre announces auditions for Annie

Auditions: Saturday, June 11th 10:00am & Sunday, June 12th 2:00pm

Where: Dixie Center for the Arts Lobby 212 N. Vienna, Ruston, LA

Audition Requirements:

v  1 prepared song (doesn’t have to be from “Annie”)

v  Cold Readings will be conducted

v  Singers will vocalize, and be taught a segment of a song from the show.

v  A small dance routine will be taught at the auditions.

v  No prepared monologues are necessary

It is not required, but recommended that those who audition be at both Saturday and Sunday evening auditions.

THE STORY: The story revolves around Annie, an 11-year-old orphan who longs for her parents to rescue her from the Municipal Orphanage and its mean-spirited matron, Miss Hannigan.  As a publicity campaign billionaire, Oliver Warbucks places her in the lap of luxury.  Annie’s stay turns out to be much more than anyone had bargained for.
