Art Talk Monday: Laissez les bon temps rouler!

This week’s Art Talk is written by Laura Hunt Miller, NCLAC’s Executive Assistant.

Come dine, dance, and support the arts with us this February!

The Ruston Civic Symphony Society’s Annual Mardi Gras Ball has been a highlight of the north central Louisiana Mardi Gras scene for a long time. This year it is reinventing itself as the four other arts-affiliated non-profits that call Ruston’s Dixie Center for the Arts home join with R.C.S.S. to host the 15th Annual Krewe of Allegro Mardi Gras Ball & Silent Auction.Image

The Dixie Center for the Arts, North Central Louisiana Arts Council, Ruston Community Theatre, and Troupe Dixie are all working together with R.C.S.S. to raise funds for a “Sustaining Building Fund” to maintain the historic 1928 Dixie Theatre building and its adjacent properties. The non-profits agree that the Dixie Center has served a pivotal role in the Ruston community over the years by providing a prominent place to promote the arts, and by safeguarding a piece of Ruston’s architectural and cultural history. All proceeds from tickets sales this year will go towards supporting this Sustaining Building Fund.

The Silent Auction portion of the evening is an important NCLAC fundraiser within the event that goes towards funding NCLAC’s programming, like Summer Art Camps for kids; held in Ruston, and in various locations within Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson, and Union Parishes, and Holiday Arts Tour; a premier local economy-boosting event for local artists, craftspersons, and business owners. Auction items will include prized local artworks, high-quality items donated by local merchants and individuals, and entertaining “experience packages.”

The Ball will be held February 22, from 7pm until midnight, at the Ruston Civic Center. The Ball will feature celebrated local musicians, the Buddy Terzia Band, and a variety of delectable Louisiana-inspired dishes. Cash bars will also be available. Individuals may reserve round tables that seat 8 persons when they purchase their ticket at the Dixie Center for the Arts. Each ticket grants two complimentary drink tokens for a beer or wine beverage from the cash bars. No outside drinks are permitted. Tickets may be purchased in person, or over the phone, at 318-255-1450, Mon.-Fri. from 9am-2pm, through the Dixie Center Box Office. Lord & Lady tickets are $40, for persons ages 40 and under, and Baron & Baroness tickets are $60, for persons 41 and over. If you have any questions, please call the Dixie Center Box office.

We would love to see more members of our non-profit minded community join us in celebrating the arts and volunteerism in our area! Each ticket sold helps provide a Sustaining Building Fund for the Dixie Center, and makes it possible for the 5 non-profits housed there to continue their individual missions and programming from a stable hub, all the while preserving a piece of Ruston’s legacy.

We hope to see you there!
