Hello there! Sophia here to update you on some opportunities to get your artwork in front of the public eye. There are currently three calls for artwork: Bossier Arts Council’s Artini to be held at Boomtown Casino, the Off the Wall Fundraiser at the Masur Museum in Monroe, and Critical Mass presented by the Shreveport Regional arts Center.
Having participated in the ARTini in 2012, I can personally say this is a golden opportunity for artists! This will be the fourth annual ARTini fundraiser for the Bossier Arts Council, providing funding for East Bank Theatre, East Bank Gallery, Arts-In-Education programming in Bossier schools, ArtWalk, and a wide range of classes and workshops available throughout the year. This year the event will be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at 7pm at the Boomtown Casino in Bossier.
This is where YOU have the opportunity to participate! In order to make this night a success, the Bossier Arts Council needs donations. Items donated may be any form of artistic media, such as paintings, drawing, sculpture, jewelry, etc. By donating a piece of artwork, the artist gets two free tickets to attend as well as a 50% commission on items sold! Along with the silent auction, this night will consist of a celebration with drinks and live music . How can you pass that up?!
Next on the list is the Off the Wall fundraiser. The Twin City Art Foundation will host their 4th annual Off the Wall fundraiser for the Masur Museum of Art on Friday April 5, 2013 from 6:30-9:30. A silent auction will be the focal point of this event with wonderful art by local, national, and sometimes international artists! Again, this is where you come in! The Masur is asking artists to donate one to two pieces of artwork to the silent auction, with perks of one free admission ticket and one free raffle ticket for the always popular Bon Voyage Trip Raffle. Artists who wish to participate must notify Jenny Burnham, Curator of Education and Public Programs, by Tuesday, April 2, so mark your calendars! For more info on submission guidelines contact the Masur Museum. Proceeds from the fundraiser support exhibitions and educational programs atthe Masur Museum of Art.
Last, but certainly not least is your opportunity to submit work to Critical Mass, an exhibition presented by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC). Critical Mass is an invitational group exhibition for all visual artists and artist teams who live in one of the ten parishes within Northwest LA. The parishes include: Caddo, Bosser, Webster, Lincoln, Claibborne, Desoto, Red River, Natchitoches, Bienville and Sabine.
If you are interested in this exhibition, your first step should be to make sure you are on the NWLA Artist Directory. If not, it is a simple process to apply and will further recognize you as an artist among others in Northwest LA. The exposure gained from including your artist statement and resume on this directory could also help you gain exhibition opportunities in the future!
Critical Mass will not be juried, but will be judged by the ‘critic’ prior to the opening reception on Friday March 1st from 6-8pm, where awards will be announced.
Take advantage of these three opportunities! By simply donating artwork, you could exhibit your work in three different cities within two months, gain feedback and publicity, and make connections with artists from different areas!
