NCLAC along with 102 a Bistro will be featuring the work of regional artists Kayla Anderson and Brooklyn Bain. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, August 1st from 5-7 pm for the exhibition titled “Captured Transfer.” Wine and appetizers will be served.
Kayla Anderson will be displaying large-scale photo transfers on forms similar to wooden pallets. Kayla is inspired by handcrafted art and elaborate storytelling. She uses these two forces of inspiration to investigate non-traditional photographic methods.
Kayla states, “The process requires many large planks of wood, varying in size, with imagery spanning the separation of the pieces of wood. Each piece stands on its own, but also comes together as a whole. When hung in the gallery space, the wooden planks with the transferred photographs give the appearance of a puzzle being placed back together.”
Kayla just completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in May from Louisiana Tech University. Her work was recently published in The Sun Magazine.
The second artist in this two-person exhibition is Brooklyn Bain. Brooklyn is also a photographer, but her work is presented in a more traditional way. Using classic printing and framing techniques, her photographs focus on nature and use the “natural landscape as a metaphor for pain, deterioration, and healing”.
Bain has moved and traveled often, and the diverse experiences that have come from this gypsy-like life are the main inspiration for her photography. “While these images are centered around pain and hurt, there are glimmers of hope seen through natural healing and radiant light,” she says.
Brooklyn graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Arts from Louisiana Tech University in May.
The works will be displayed at 102 a Bistro until November 1st. 102 a Bistro is located at 102 South Monroe Street in Ruston. NCLAC and 102 a Bistro have formed a partnership in their quarterly art receptions. The evenings are enjoyable, with delicious food and wine, and easy mingling among artists and art patrons. Following the reception, visitors are encouraged to have a bite at the Bistro, perhaps with a tasty experience at the oyster bar.
