An interlude of New Orleans-style jazz music and gourmet dining will greet attendees of the Jazz Brunch with Jackie Greggs on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Bernice, LA, beginning at 11 a.m. Greggs, a renowned jazz vocalist and arranger, and her musical ensemble will be in the spotlight in the fellowship hall of Bernice United Methodist Church, located on Hwy. 167 at 8th St. The event is sponsored by the Bernice Historical Society.
Tickets, at $25 each, are available in advance only by calling 318-285-7093, or by mailing a check to Bernice Historical Society, P.O. Box 524, Bernice, LA 71222. The Mardi Gras-theme brunch will feature non-alcoholic mimosa sparklers, smoked ham, cheese grits, fruit, ginger muffins, salad, and bread pudding.
Greggs will be joined by saxophonist Maurice Johnson, drummer Jack Jones, bassist Jeff Albright, and Lionel Duntler on keyboard. The repertoire will include jazz classics popularized by greats such as Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Peggy Lee. A native of Shreveport, Greggs has performed throughout the U.S. and in Kyoto, Japan, wowing audiences with her smooth jazz and blues stylings.
The performance will be provided by a grant through the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council from the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
