 What you learn

The Masur Museum of Art has a new etching press! Explore printmaking through monotype and collagraph. This class is for adult students interested in learning about printmaking. No printmaking experience is necessary –beginners welcome! On the first night of class students will learn about printmaking and see live demonstrations. During the class on Saturday, students will create their own works of art to take home.

Monotype printing will allow you to achieve painterly images with subtle variations.  A collagraph print is created by printing a plate possessing the inked matrix of collaged, relatively flat materials, which allow the replication of a variety of shapes, textures and images. These processes can stand alone or be combined with each other. Although this medium is closely connected with the printmaking process through materials and equipment, many monotype artists approach it as painters, not as printmakers.  The impressions these artists create can be aptly termed painterly prints as they bring a painterly process into printmaking.
